Roger Sherman

  • Roger Sherman was born on April 19, 1721 in Newton, Maryland.
  • Roger was a signing member of the Declaration of Independence.
  • In 1755, he was elected to be a representative of New Milford, Connecticut.
  • He became mayor of New Haven in 1784.
  • Sherman was a member of the first congress from 1789-1791.
  • At age 66 he was elected to be a representative for Connecticut for the Constitutional Convention.
  • During the Convention he acted as a peacemaker in times of conflict.
  • During the Revolutionary War he served on the supreme court for Connecticut.
  • Sherman died July 23, 1793. He was 72 years old.
