Alexander Martin
(1740-1807)


Alexander was a Federalist. He was born in Hunterdon County, New Jersey. He attended The University of New Jersey, which is now Princeton. He moved to North Carolina and was elected to the Colonial Assembly in North Carolina. He fought in some major battles in the revolutionary war such as Brandywine and Germantown. He was elected for the United States Senate, but only served one term. The reason Alexander Martin did not sign the Constitution in because he left the convention early.

Fun Facts

  • In a session of the superior court at Hillsboro, 150 regulaters armed with sticks, switches, and clubs, came in damanding fairness in taxes, and violence erupted and all the members, including Alexander, was beated.
  • Martin served as a speaker in the North Carolina Senate.
  • Martin Never married, and Died November 2nd 1807 at the age of 67 on his plantation "Danbury", and was buried on the estate.
