His prior political experience included working in the Lower House of Pennsylvania(1785-1788), speaking for the Lower House of Pennsylvania(1787), he was a Pennsylvania Legislature(1772-1776), the Continental Congress(1774-1776), Confederation Congress(1782-1784), and he was the President of the Confederation Congress(1783-1784)
