Roger Sherman

  • He was born in Newton, Massachusetts on April 19, 1721
  • He was a shoemaker in early years
  • He was 66 when at the constitutional convention
  • He had no formal legal education but an honorary MA from Yale in 1768
  • He was one of only two delegates to sign all three of the nations documents
  • He was influential in the Connecticut compromise
  • William Pierce said of him "... no man has a better heart or a clearer head"
  • He died July 23, 1793
