  • He was born june 26, 1741 near the head of Sagamore Creek
  • He was of an existing, established american family who had been there for four generations
  • He led a raid of 400 men on Forts William and Mary for black powder and rifles on December 14,1774, because of the ban of rifles and powder being traded to america
  • Due to the raids he led, he risked hanging
  • He left the farm he lived lived on to go to the counting rooms because he had a keen mind and remarkable memory
  • Later, with the help of a prominent merchant and his brother, he became a sea captain
  • He was a delegate at the continental congress and a signing member
  • By order of congress 13 ships were to be built, he acquired 1 contract for the Raleigh to be built in Portsmouth
